This week’s photo challenge with the daily post is called “contrasts.”
The trees and the bright sunset in the sky provide some interesting contrast in this park near where we live. The park is a memorial to a town that once stood and is a popular park for people with dogs.
We should go back there again sometime.
What happened to the town?
It was an African Canadian community that was established in the 1800s by freed slaves that joined with the city in the early 1900s. It was damaged in several incidents including an explosion, fire and was cut off from much of the rest of the city because of poor infrastructure. The town was closed and destroyed and people living there were relocated in the 1960s to make room for a bridge. They built a memorial park in the 1980s as part of a formal apology.
